EWB Ireland Conference Speakers

Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Ireland 4th National Conference takes place at Engineers Ireland on Thursday the 9th March from 6:00pm – 9:00pm as part of Engineers Week.

Speakers include;

Aidan Madden, Arup

Aidan Madden is a Chartered Civil/ Structural Engineer with almost 20 years’ experience. Arup have been working in Bangladesh since the collapse of the Rana Plaza factory in 2013, supporting a number of Clients. Aidan has been one of the leadership team within Arup on this work, particularly with the Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety.

Colin Keogh. Rapid Foundation

An engineering PhD candidate, Colin Keogh has long been interested in using low-cost disruptive technologies to help improve the world. He founded The Rapid Foundation, along with Dr Shane Keaveney, a PhD researcher at UCD, to put technology such as 3D printers and low-cost electronics in the hands of people who need it most in developing countries. The Rapid Foundation was a recipient of the 2016 Fritz Schumacher Award and Colin was recently named in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list of Europe’s brightest young people.

Launch of EmaP – Deepesh Man Shakya, President of Nepal Ireland Society

EmaP is a visual and aural emergency first aid app to enable a mobile phonme to provide immediate emergency response information. The App was designed by Guillem Gonzalez, a former student of IT Sligo, as part of WTINE 2016 and developed in Kathmandu.

WTINE 2016 Winners Eoin Cummins, Evan Dowling, Daniel Morgan, Eoin Bracken.

The winners of WTINE 2016 will present their Biochar Kiln project in advance of their trip to Nepal to implement the project with Concern-Worldwide.

Declan Alcock, Director EWB-Ireland.

Declan will give an overview of EWB activities over the past 12 months including Research, Overseas Projects, Volunteering Opportunities and new collaborations and Strategic Partnerships.
