Nepal – Aid Distribution at Baluwa Secondary School

The village of Baluwa in Kavre, Nepal. was severally affected by the earthquakes of 2015. In the immediate aftermath we partnered with a local organisation to distribute clothes and hygiene products to 143 children at the local secondary school.

Nepal – Blanket distribution in Gujari

Several months after the 2015 earthquakes with delays in reconstruction many people are still living in temporary shelters with winter fast approaching. For this initiative we partnered with local volunteers to purchase and distribute wool blankets to the people of Gajuri Village.

Nepal – E-library Shree Birendra Aadarsh Higher Secondary School, Birendranagar, Chitwan

EWB was delighted to play a small part in supporting Mr.Ganga Ram Kandel, Patron and Advisor of the Nepal Non-Residents Association NRNA and General Secretary of the Nepal Ireland Society, who was Coordinator of this project. The overall objective of was to create a comprehensive and rapid accessing way of digitized books, archives, and other digital documents to enhance an effective and quality education and knowledge to 1200 students and the wider community.

Uganda – Kisiizi Hospital Primary School

We provided technical advice to our partner UCDVO for the design and construction of a Special Needs Primary School and associated accommodation blocks on the grounds of Kisiizi Hospital in Uganda.

Philippines – Renewable Energy Feasibility Study, Balayan

TEN Foundations support a community enterprise in Philippines for the production of school bags which are sold across 3 locations in Northern Ireland. The area they work with is extremely rural is therefore affected by power cuts resulting in loss of income. In partnership with ARUP we are investigating a renewable energy solution to provide energy security including PV, biomass and small-scale hydro.

Ireland – Community Orchard, Dunne Street, Dublin

“Come Grow with us” is a community participatory work devised by visual artist Steven Doody. There are many small areas in the city which are closed off to the public, not contributing to the local community in any way. The focus of this project is to reuse these areas to be of benefit to the city’s children and inhabitants by promoting biodiversity and educational workshops.

Uganda – Water Monitoring

Using equipment kindly donated by the EPA and local authorities we partnered with Malteser International to provide water monitoring in refugee camps in Arua district in Northern Uganda which has seen an influx of refugees fleeing the civil war in South Sudan.

Europe – Build Solid Ground

EWB Ireland was a partner in the Build Solid Ground (BSG) project funded by the European Union – Development Education and Awareness Raising (EU DEAR) program (EuropeAid/151103/DH/ACT/Multi) which was carried out by 14 partners, in 7 countries over 3 years. 

The aim of BSG was to inform and actively engage EU citizens in actions towards achieving  Sustainable Development Goal SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities at home and abroad. Particular attention is given to Land & Property Rights, Gender Equality, Slum Upgrading, Migration & Displacement, and Climate Change.
