
Declan is a Chartered Engineer and Sustainability Professional with over 20 years’ experience in Building Services Consultancy and Sustainable Building Design on a wide range of educational, healthcare, commercial and residential projects. Declan is currently Executive Director of Sustainability at Varming Consulting Engineers and Chairman of the Irish Green Building Council (IGBC). He has an MSc Energy & Sustainable Building Design from DeMontfort University and has lectured at MSc level in Sustainable BIM Design and Construction and been an External Examiner for MSc in Sustainable Energy Engineering.
Declan’s experience ranges from governance, policy and leadership, to the practicalities of sustainable building design, to International development in low/middle income countries (LMIC), along with a focus on the role of engineering in achieving resilient communities and contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and a particular interest in how the Private Sector can contribute to the work of NGOs and Humanitarian Engineering.
A fan of the mountains Declan has climbed & trekked in the Nepalese Himalaya, French, Italian and Swiss Alps, Dolomites, High Atlas of Morocco, Sierra del Escambray in Cuba, Scottish Highlands and Ireland.
