Sonairte 2007

In the summer of 2007, EWB-Ireland joined up with EWB-Cardiff to send a number of volunteers to carry out work in the Sonairte Ecology Centre in Laytown, Co. Meath.

Sonairte is a non-profit organisation run on the energy and enthusiasm of volunteers from the local community. It was established in the late 1980’s by members of the local community and concerned environmentalists. The organisation set out to promote environmental awareness and education by establishing an ecological visitor centre.

Some sections of the centre were in a bad condition and in need of repair. Over the course of two weeks, 20 EWB volunteers led by Barry Lovern, worked on numerous projects in the centre. The main tasks completed were the installation of a new propagation tunnel and associated water system; and the redevelopment of the energy courtyard.
