The Busoga Trust provides sustainable access to safe water, improved sanitation and comprehensive hygiene & health education to the communities in rural Uganda. This year’s successful candidate will research the use of pit latrines in rural Uganda. Most importantly the work will observe how to get the community members involved in building the pit latrines without any external funding. The study will look in to 2 aspects:

1. Technical – materials, costs and design
2. Social – analysing potential and success of sanitation promotion strategies in a Ugandan context
You can read about last year’s placement volunteer Mark Kenny in the Engineers Journal.
